DESCRIPTION:The last Thursday of every month is a free dress day. Common-sense guidelines apply\, such as no torn-out jeans\, no shirts with alcohol or inappropriate graphic or logos\, etc. Prohibited articles of clothing include but are not limited to: \nPajamas (except on “Pajama Day”)\nTrench coats\nTank tops and spaghetti or thin strap tops\nBare midriff\, or see-through clothing\nForm-fitting pants cannot be worn alone and must follow uniform guidelines as described in section 2(c)(xi) of the uniform policy at all times. \nIf in doubt as to whether an item is appropriate\, send back-up clothing in the event your child is asked to change. \n  \nHalloween Costumes at School: \nStudents may choose to wear regular uniform school clothes\, free dress\, fall colors or simple Halloween costumes on Wednesday\, October 31st. \nPlease follow these guidelines to minimize disruption and maximize the fun: \n\nTeachers may have students change into costumes for the party at the end of the day or teachers may choose to allow costumes to be worn to school and throughout the day.\nTeachers cannot be responsible for putting on\, taking off\, or managing costumes. One suggestion is to have your child wear part of their costume to school\, and save the big production for the evening.\nCostumes should be appropriate for all regular school activities like quiet work times\, recess\, and P.E. Please be aware of the activities your child will be doing\, and know that their costume may come back soiled or damaged. Tennis shoes are required for P.E.\nMinimal make-up is allowed\, but students are not to bring any makeup items to school for application. No full face makeup or colored hair spray\, as it will often come off on clothing\, costumes\, school supplies\, food\, and school furniture. If the makeup is creating a problem\, your child may be asked to wash it off.\nCostumes should not include accessories such as gun\, knives\, swords\, pitchforks or other any items that make them scary\, gory\, or violent. No masks. Please pay careful attention to the appropriateness of the costume for the school environment. Halloween is an exciting day in a school\, but it can also be disruptive.\nPhone calls home for forgotten costumes items will not be allowed.\n\nThe guidelines mentioned above may seem overly restrictive to some parents\, but please understand that they are designed to protect the safety of your children and their costumes\, while assuring the opportunity for fun in the school setting. We want the children to have a great time AND have a productive day at school. SUMMARY:Road Construction on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:The City of Sherwood has announced that road construction on Main Street will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (September 24th and 25th). Construction is scheduled to take place during the day from 8:30-5:00 pm. There will be lanes closed and flaggers will be present on Main Street. \n\nUPDATE! Afternoon car line to take place on SCS campus with modifications on 9/24 and 9/25  \nMorning car line should run as usual and afternoon car line will no longer take place at Archer Elementary.\n\nPlease note the update: we will now be allowed access to our parking lot so that afternoon car line can run as usual\, with the modification that traffic will only be allowed access to and from our parking lot from Sunset Blvd. for afternoon car line. If cars begin to back up on Main Street\, traffic will be redirected by construction workers to Madrona Street where parents will be able to park and walk onto campus to pick up their student. In an effort to reduce traffic congestion\, for these two days only\, we will be beginning afternoon car line at 3:00 pm and will be staggering release following the schedule below:\n \nSuggested pick up times assigned by car line number \n\n3:00 pm – 3:20 pm car line numbers from 1 to 85\n3:20 pm – 3:40 pm car line numbers from 86-150\n\n\nLeft hand turns will be required to exit the parking lot for these two days.\nIf coming from downtown Sherwood via Main Street\, you will not be allowed to enter the parking lot by making a left turn. You must access the parking lot by way of Sunset. See the detour map provided by the city here.\nIf you are carpooling\, please use the car line number assigned to the driver of the car to determine your pick up window.\nWe realize not everyone will be able to accommodate the assigned pick up times\, but appreciate keeping to the schedule if you are able to.\n\n\nAdditional details below:\n\n\nFor walkers\, both parent pick up and independent student walkers will check out as normal.\nPlease refrain from picking up students early. If unavoidable\, please contact the office in advance to make arrangements.\nOutdoor School departure and pre-scheduled meetings should take place as previously arranged.\nPlease limit campus visits during construction to avoid traffic congestion.\nCarpooling these days is encouraged.

Hear about the year ahead\, learn about the curriculum\, and meet the teachers. \nBelow is the schedule\, the first part of the evening is for middle school only. We will conclude the evening at 8:30 pm. If you have a middle school and elementary student\, make sure you attend the middle school session first because they do not repeat presentation. \nThis is an adults only event. \n6:30-7:00 Middle School only – Presentation in Sanctuary\nWe will start the night in the sanctuary for middle school parents only from 6:30 to 7:00pm to hear from all of the Leadership Academy teachers about their program. \n7:00-7:20 Whole School Gathering in the Sanctuary\nParents meet in the sanctuary to be introduced to the teachers\, have a short presentation from Principal Joy Raboli. \n7:20-7:30 Move to classrooms \n7:30-7:55 Session 1: Elementary Classrooms or visit Middle School Classrooms\nMeet the teachers\, learn about the curriculum and ask questions.\n(For Middle School parents\, tour all of the classrooms) \n8:00-8:30 Session 2: Elementary Classrooms\nSession 1 will be repeated for those families with more than one student at SCS. \n**Please note that parking is limited\, any overflow parking can use the district office parking lot (across the street from the school) and Archer Glen Elementary School (off of Sunset). SUMMARY:Stepping Stones Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:At SCS each year\, we celebrate the completion of the elementary grades with a “Stepping Stones Ceremony.”  For new families\, the Stepping Stones Ceremony is a tradition where the teacher speaks about the class and the students\, then each student steps over an imaginary line to signify completing their grade. After\, they receive a stone with their completed grade on it.  It is wonderful closure and the stones become keepsakes that they collect every year. \nOur Stepping Stones Ceremony will take place on the last day of school. Once the whole class has received their stones\, they will exit as a group into the school gym where you can meet up with them and take pictures.
