SUMMARY:HEART Week
DESCRIPTION:HEART Week takes place from February 6th through the 13th. Each day will be focused on a H.E.A.R.T. skill: honor\, empathy\, accountability\, respect and teamwork. Each classroom will do something slightly different each day. \nThere will also be a Spirit Week\, which starts on February 6th. Please dress according to the schedule below or in uniform if you choose not to participate. Please remember to wear appropriate clothing each day. \n\nThursday\, February 6th: COMFY DAY\nMonday\, February 10th: ROLE MODEL DAY\nTuesday\, February 11th: SPORTS DAY\nWednesday\, February 12th: RAINBOW DAY\nThursday\, February 13th: PINK AND RED DAY\n\nCalls home for forgotten spirit wear items will not be allowed. If you have any questions please check the uniform policy\, contact the office\, or send back up clothing. \nYou can participate in HEART Week at home too! Try some of these activities: \n\nEat heart shaped food like pizza\, pancakes\, a heart shaped lunch\nLeave a heart shaped love note under your child’s pillow for each of the five days. Thursday’s note is about how they use honor\, Monday’s note is how they show empathy etc.\nWatch a movie as a family and talk about how the H.E.A.R.T. skills were used or not used during the film\nWhen you read to your child at night\, discuss the H.E.A.R.T. skills that the main character used or struggled to use\nPick a picture book each night for each of the H.E.A.R.T. skills\nH.E.A.R.T. Charades\nPlay a family game and focus on one of the heart skills that the family is using such as teamwork\nDo a H.E.A.R.T. skill scavenger hunt around the house\nHave your child send letters to family members about the H.E.A.R.T. skills that they appreciate about that person\nDo a family service project that week to practice empathy\nClean the house using teamwork and playing songs with “heart” in the title.  Google songs with heart in the title and you are set!\nEach night at dinner\, ask each other questions about how they used a certain H.E.A.R.T. skill that day.  For example\, on Wednesday\, talk about how each family member used respect that day\nHave a H.E.A.R.T. cookie surprise!  Bake heart shaped cookies and deliver it to service organizations in Sherwood to thank them for their H.E.A.R.T. skills that make this community special.  For example\, deliver cookies to the police department and make a thank you card about how they use honor\, teamwork etc.\n\nBe sure to take pictures of your “H.E.A.R.T. at Home” activities and email them to Joy Raboli at jraboli@sherwoodcharterschool.org. She will be posting them on our school Facebook page during the week!

SUMMARY:Wreath Fundraiser Delivery Day and Door to Door Sales
DESCRIPTION:If you ordered a wreath as part of the PAC fundraiser\, delivery will be on Saturday\, November 23rd at SCS between 10-2. \nSaturday\, November 23rd will also be door to door sales around Sherwood between 10-2. Mrs. Stuckey will have a truck full of wreaths at SCS for families to grab and sell door to door. Last year we had so many volunteers the wreaths were all sold in no time!  We will have a map of Sherwood divided up. This fundraiser is huge for our school so it’s important we have as many families participating as possible. Many hands make light work. Hot Cocoa and doughnuts for all our helpers!!

SUMMARY:Free Dress Day
DESCRIPTION:The last Thursday of every month is a free dress day. Common-sense guidelines apply\, such as no torn-out jeans\, no shirts with alcohol or inappropriate graphic or logos\, etc. Prohibited articles of clothing include but are not limited to: \nPajamas (except on “Pajama Day”)\nTrench coats\nTank tops and spaghetti or thin strap tops\nBare midriff\, or see-through clothing\nForm-fitting pants cannot be worn alone and must follow uniform guidelines as described in section 2(c)(xi) of the uniform policy at all times. \nIf in doubt as to whether an item is appropriate\, send back-up clothing in the event your child is asked to change. \n  \nHalloween Costumes at School: \nStudents may choose to wear regular uniform school clothes\, free dress\, fall colors or simple Halloween costumes on Wednesday\, October 31st. \nPlease follow these guidelines to minimize disruption and maximize the fun: \n\nTeachers may have students change into costumes for the party at the end of the day or teachers may choose to allow costumes to be worn to school and throughout the day.\nTeachers cannot be responsible for putting on\, taking off\, or managing costumes. One suggestion is to have your child wear part of their costume to school\, and save the big production for the evening.\nCostumes should be appropriate for all regular school activities like quiet work times\, recess\, and P.E. Please be aware of the activities your child will be doing\, and know that their costume may come back soiled or damaged. Tennis shoes are required for P.E.\nMinimal make-up is allowed\, but students are not to bring any makeup items to school for application. No full face makeup or colored hair spray\, as it will often come off on clothing\, costumes\, school supplies\, food\, and school furniture. If the makeup is creating a problem\, your child may be asked to wash it off.\nCostumes should not include accessories such as gun\, knives\, swords\, pitchforks or other any items that make them scary\, gory\, or violent. No masks. Please pay careful attention to the appropriateness of the costume for the school environment. Halloween is an exciting day in a school\, but it can also be disruptive.\nPhone calls home for forgotten costumes items will not be allowed.\n\nThe guidelines mentioned above may seem overly restrictive to some parents\, but please understand that they are designed to protect the safety of your children and their costumes\, while assuring the opportunity for fun in the school setting. We want the children to have a great time AND have a productive day at school.
